Check Your Online Karma!

If you are a Facebook(.com) user, you might had tried the application that urges you to "send good karma" to friends in your network. Sounds like a joke - but it does work to some extent! When one clicks to "send good karma", there are indeed good intentions, and thus the "transmission" of goodwill, albeit being minute and hard to measure. If the intentions are bad, as in being hypocritical or sarcastic, it's the creation of bad karma on one's part instead! Users can "choose good karma" to send - with categories such as "goodness, peace, liberty, compassion, health, happiness".

But isn't what sent merely pictures and words? Though you might not be able to literally share qualities such as peace of mind, there is nevertheless the good wish to share it, and this can help bring well-being to the recipient to some extent. Trying to share online peace of mind beats not sharing any offline! If one has stronger aspirations to share, one would naturally do it in person too. "Good karma" received online prompts you to "return good karma" - in the spirit of one good turn deserving another. As the application "promises" in a cyclic and viral way - "Send good karma to someone else and good karma will return to you!"

Karmic laws operate online too! Virtual deeds have real impact, since intentions are involved. It can get overbearing though, when one sends and returns "good karma" only virtually! Goodwill can morph into ill will! We create and "send" karma via other means too - via emails, websites... Technology makes the spread of good and ill will more efficient! Spam many with a hoax mail and you spread delusion while multiplying bad karma! Send a flame mail cc-ed to many and the fire of hate might burn away your forests of merits! How's your online karma?
